Yesterday, I took the kids to the observation deck at Taoyuan Airport to watch the planes take off and land. It was extremely hot, and only my son could endure the heat and observe seriously. My two young daughters quickly retreated to the indoor air-conditioned room. I stayed outside for a while before joining them inside. As soon as I entered, my usually cheerful and optimistic elder daughter looked a bit distressed and said, "Dad, that child is in a vegetative state...". I followed her gaze and saw a nearly adult child who couldn't live independently. He could only open his mouth, move his neck slightly, and couldn't speak. His body lay on a specially designed wheelchair.
The heart of all parents trembled within me. "He's not in a vegetative state; he just can't move or speak on his own. His parents must love him very much, taking care of him and bringing him out to play." My daughter nodded silently. I told them, "I am truly fortunate to have you three lovely children. As long as you take good care of yourselves, stay safe and healthy, and be kind, that would be the greatest comfort to me." My eldest daughter continued, "His legs are so thin." I explained, "That's because he almost never uses his legs, so his muscles have withered. Your grandfather also walked less later in life, so his legs became very thin too."
My daughter is always so kind and empathetic toward others. Each child is unique; they are gifts and keys from heaven. Truly understanding your children benefits you the most because, in the process of understanding them, you also gain a deeper understanding of yourself. This can heal and help you comprehend your inner pain and limitations, and release your potential energy.
