Reconstruction

There was a small demolition in the town where I live. When I went back to take a look later, it was disappointing.

Removing the old is difficult enough, but how to build the new is even more crucial.

The motivation for actively tearing down the old falls on a spectrum:

A. Escape – Without a clear vision, history is bound to repeat itself.

B. Creation – Without the right ideas, the outcome often does more harm than good.

When something is passively removed, should it be rebuilt exactly the same, or should a new design be adopted?

Some prefer faithful restoration, fearing the loss of memory. It also reveals a tendency toward rigid preservation, a reluctance to evolve beyond the past.

Others take a different approach—not out of reverence for what was lost, but as a form of compensatory excess, replacing it with relentless consumption.
